When tissues in the throat vibrate it creates snoring.
The vibrations that cause snoring start and get louder when the airway narrows, which speeds up airflow — kind of like using your thumb to partially block the end of hose.
There are several reasons why the airway narrows and causes snoring.
Nasal Constrictions
Constrictions in the nose, such as nasal valve collapse or a deviated septum, narrow the air passage and can create turbulent airflow and snoring.
Oral Constrictions
- Excess Weight
Excess weight and extra tissue around the neck and throat can contribute to airway narrowing that leads to snoring.
-
Tissue Relaxation
During sleep, the throat and tongue muscles relax, which can cause the airway to collapse, especially if sleeping on your back. It’s also why alcohol and sleeping pills make snoring worse.
-
Mouth Breathing
When the mouth falls open it can narrow the airway and result in unnatural, turbulent airflow that causes snoring.
To stop snoring, you need to reduce the vibration of the tissues in the throat, by preventing the airway from narrowing and slowing the airflow.

How EPAP Stops Snoring
Now let's discuss how EPAP stops snoring. To start, we have understand what nasal EPAP even is.
What is nasal EPAP?
EPAP stands for Expiratory Positive Air Pressure and is a relatively new technology, clinically proven to treat obstructive sleep apnea and snoring.
EPAP works by providing slight resistance to exhalation, which creates a longer, slower exhale, which in turn helps keep the airway open and stops tissue vibrations that cause snoring.
Nasal EPAP devices have a small valve that opens when you breathe in and partially closes when you breathe out. Your exhaled air will go through small vents. This is what creates the slight resistance and the slower exhalation that stops snoring.
The slower airflow from the slower exhalation stops the vibrations in your throat that cause snoring. It’s like taking your thumb off the end of the hose.

EPAP vs CPAP for Snoring
If you’ve heard of CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure), these machines are the gold standard for treating obstructive sleep apnea but are also sometimes used for snoring too. They work by delivering “positive pressure” which is a steady stream of air through a mask and down your airway forcing it open.
In essence, EPAP uses a similar mechanism to CPAP, but instead of a machine, it uses the power of your own breath to fix your breathing and stop snoring.
Unlike CPAP machines where most people find the air pressure uncomfortable, have problems with the masks leaking, and find the machines bulky, noisy, and cumbersome, requiring electricity, setup, cleanup, and difficult to travel with, EPAP just uses the power of your own breath. There is no machine or batteries or electricity. Nasal EPAP devices are small, easy to use, easy to travel with, and don’t require all the hassle of CPAP machines.
Is EPAP for Snoring or Sleep Apnea
Nasal EPAP was originally developed and FDA approved to treat obstructive sleep apnea.
However, today you can use EPAP for snoring or sleep apnea.
EPAP for Sleep Apnea
To use EPAP for obstructive sleep apnea, you need to have a sleep test and prescription from your doctor. The BongoRx is an FDA approved EPAP device specifically designed for obstructive sleep apnea.
EPAP for Snoring
To use EPAP for snoring you don’t need a prescription. SnoreBuds is an FDA registered EPAP device specifically intended for snorers.
If you have sleep apnea and want to use a product like SnoreBuds it’s important that you speak to your doctor to determine if it’s suitable for you.
Since SnoreBuds is only intended to treat snoring, you do not need a prescription. Likewise, it will not be covered by your medical insurance. However, SnoreBuds is accepted by most health saving plans such as FSA (Flexible Spending Account) and HSA (Health Savings Account).
The reason SnoreBuds is eligible for HSA/FSA is because better sleep improves your health. It’s not just sleep apnea that hurts your sleep and your health. Snoring is indicative of disordered breathing. It’s obvious how it interrupts a bedtime partner’s sleep, but a snorer’s sleep is also impaired due to non-ideal breathing, which can stress the body and impair physical and mental recovery that happen during sleep.
By sleeping with SnoreBuds you not only silence the snoring, but you improve your sleep and thereby you may experience substantial improvements in performance, health, and cognition including more energy during the day and improvements in mood, concentration, and memory.
The Future Snoring Treatment with SnoreBuds Nasal EPAP
Nasal EPAP has had the potential to be the GO-TO anti-snore option for the last 20 years but has been held up by 2 problems.
First, EPAP devices were originally developed only for obstructive sleep apnea. Therefore, they only offered one high EPAP strength. To use it, you had to have a sleep test and prescription, and so EPAP wasn’t available to the general snoring population.
Secondly, the nasal EPAP for sleep apnea only came in one strength. There was no EPAP device with the ability to turn up or down the “Snore Strength” and tailor the EPAP to your individual needs.
SnoreBuds solved these 2 problems.
The SnoreBuds Story
Over 10 years ago, I was treating patients’ snoring with oral devices. Like CPAP, these anti-snore oral devices had many issues.
Anti-snore mouthguards caused teeth to move, bites to change, TMJ pain, and they were expensive.
While searching for solutions, I had an epiphany.
The solution to snoring is to use nasal EPAP technology with an adjustable “Snore Strength” dial.
From the get-go, I imagined it would be for snorers. That way you could buy it on the internet or in a store without the need for a sleep test and prescription like the earlier EPAP devices for sleep apnea. This way it would be both convenient and cost-effective.
It took over 10 years, but my imagination came to fruition.
I was awarded the patent for SnoreBuds’ “Nasal EPAP Dilator” and after 10 years of R&D SnoreBuds came to life.
SnoreBuds checks all the anti-snore boxes:
- It works.
- It’s comfortable, convenient, and cost-effective.
- It’s safe, effective, and well-researched.
- It’s adjustable so you can personalize your Snore Strength
- It’s available without a prescription or sleep test.
- It’s small, easy to travel with, and discreet.
- It’s reusable, reducing waste and costs.
- It’s the go-to anti-snore device. Nothing compares.

SnoreBuds uses the power of your own breath to silence snoring and improve sleep.
The Technology
SnoreBuds is a nasal dilator that incorporates EPAP technology which has been shown to be safe and effective at treating snoring.
Nasal Dilator
As a nasal dilator, SnoreBuds makes it easy to breathe through your nose, even if you have a deviated septum, nasal constriction, or struggled as a mouth breather in the past. Nasal breathing is vital to healthy sleep. SnoreBuds will help ensure you can breathe through your nose.
EPAP
The EPAP technology sets SnoreBuds apart from all the other nasal dilators or nasal strips you’ve seen. EPAP stands for Expiratory Positive Air Pressure, and it slows your exhalation, creating positive pressure that prevents your airway from narrowing which leads to snoring.
You activate EPAP when you breathe out of your nose. Your exhaled air causes valves to close and directs the exhaled air through small vents. In essence, it uses the power of your own breath to silence snoring and improve your breathing and your sleep.
You’ll know it’s working when you breathe out and you feel a slight backpressure that forces you to breathe more slowly.
Snore Strength Dial
You control the Snore Strength by turning the dial. A lower Snore Strength will have less EPAP, and a higher Snore Strength will have stronger EPAP.
To determine your ideal Snore Strength, start with a low to moderate Snore Strength, one where you feel the resistance but can comfortably fall asleep. Then use a snore recording app and/or a partner’s feedback to determine if you need to turn the Snore Strength up. Once you find your ideal Snore Strength, you can just set it and forget it...unless you have a few drinks, in which case you may want to consider turning the strength up.
Since EPAP, and nasal dilators in general, can take a few nights to get used to, don’t rush it, and just gradually increase the Snore Strength over time until you reach your ideal Snore Strength.
The Best Anti-Snore Device: EPAP
The future of anti-snore devices is nasal EPAP.
All other anti-snoring methods are limited by their ineffectiveness, lack of comfort, or side effects.
SnoreBuds is the best anti-snore device ever created. It’s the only anti-snore solution that checks all the boxes.
It works and it’s safe.
It’s comfortable, convenient, and cost-effective.
SnoreBuds doesn’t come with the risks, costs, and burdens of other options.
SnoreBuds uses the power of your own breath to silence snoring and improve sleep, so you can get restful sleep together.

Worked so well my wife thought I wasn't breathing
I was skeptical when I first purchased SnoreBuds. I found it worked so well that my wife thought I wasn't breathing. I also found that my sleep was deeper. Most likely because it was less interrupted.
SnoreBuds Sizing Guide
SnoreBuds come in two sizes.
Small (Size 1): Fits most women and men with smaller noses.
Standard (Size 2): Fits most men and women with average-to-larger noses.
It’s common to fit into two sizes.
Starter Pack (Size 1 and Size 2): For most people, we recommend ordering a Starter Pack which includes both sizes.
The correct size will feel sealed and snug in the nose, dilating the nostrils and keeping your SnoreBuds securely in place throughout the night.
SnoreSealer is universal, one-size-fits-all and (right now) comes as a free gift with SnoreBuds.
